  • 4. Description [Abstrak] : The Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) is an economic cooperation between the governments of Indonesia and Japan. In principle, this cooperation is mutual market openness in Japan and in Indonesia as well as increasing Indonesia’s capacity with Japanese assistance. IJEPA has three main pillars namely Liberalism, Facilitation and Cooperation. From these pillars, Indonesia and Japan hope that they will have great benefits from this collaboration. But in reality when the IJEPA was implemented, there was an imbalance in the benefits gained by Japan and Indonesia. This research aims to explain in detail how the IJEPA (Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement) Cooperation in the Structuralism Perspective. The research method used in compiling this thesis is an explanatory type with secondary data types. The analysis technique used is qualitative content analysis. The theory used is the world system theory Immanuel Wallerstain. This theory is used to answer the reasons for Indonesia’s loss from the IJEPA Cooperation (Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement).

    The results of this research analysis are that Indonesia must revise and optimize instruments such as MINDEC in IJEPA cooperation, so that it can get more tangible benefits from IJEPA cooperation, with the existence of IJEPA, referring to Immanuel Wallerstain’s structuralism view that economic cooperation still has opportunities for semi-peripheral countries, and the periphery to become a central state through the phenomenon of the cyclical rhythms.
