Description [Abstrak] : Since its establishment in 1997, Indian Ocean Rim Association or IORA should be able to cope with trade barriers of piracy in the Indian Ocean region and surrounding areas to improve economic stability in the region but in fact the establishment of IORA has not done its best so until 2016, IORA is still trying to reduce piracy in the Indian Ocean region where pirates are trade barriers that should be prioritized in their settlement. Indonesia officially became the chair of the IORA for the period 2015-2017 at the 15th IORA Council of Ministers Meeting in Padang, Indonesia and became the only chairman to bring the theme in its tenure, the “Strengthening Maritime Cooperation in Peaceful and Stable Indian Ocean”. This research aims to determine the interests of Indonesia in its tenure as chairman of the IORA. The method which used in this research is descriptive which used to explain the Interest of Indonesia in IORA 2015. The result of this research is Indonesia’s interest in IORA in 2015 is to become a maritime country where maritime security indicates the safe logistical path of various obstacles with the operation of marine security and the welfare of coastal communities that are able to cultivate marine potential in a sustainable manner.
